Third Quarter Newsletter

Good things are happening in the City of Deer Park!

The service department was very busy across the summer.  City council approved maintenance and resurfacing of 6 City streets and the coating of 20 more streets with a Reclamite seal product and/or an Onyx road preservative material.  The major road project on O’Leary Avenue from Plainfield Road to the Railroad should be finished by Thanksgiving.  In the fourth quarter several key road projects will be completed and new ones will be beginning.

In August, we celebrated the beginning of the school year in the newly expanded and renovated Amity School.  This 25-million-dollar project brought much needed upgrades while still preserving the historic character of Amity school.  The new addition includes climate control for the entire building, providing a better environment for learning.

Home buyers are beginning to “Discover Deer Park”!  The Business Journal reported that homes put on the market in Deer Park sell within 11 days making Deer Park one of the most attractive communities in the county.  And even better news, Deer Park home values have increased by 3 to 5 percent!  The Tax department reported city income tax revenues are up over $100,000 from the same time period in 2017!

With the Fall season upon us and leaf collections beginning, we ask that you rake your leaves to the curb line and do not put them in the street.  I can’t believe 2018 is almost over and we are moving into the holiday season already!

                                                               Sincerely,

                                                               Mayor John Donnellon
